You’ll notice the prominence of our testing process in both our marketing and in our day-to-day operations. Let me explain the importance of it by using a physical skill as an example: The ability to stay on your feet. Skills are things we can measure, practice, and improve upon. So, yes, we consider staying upright (e.g., not falling) to be a skill.

I’m often asked why we use nine different tests that evaluate our clients’ balance in our quarterly testing process. The answer is that fall risk is one of the single biggest dangers of aging that we can control. However, there are a myriad of reasons that people fall. A tendency towards falling can be an issue with any of the following:
Gait
Center of gravity control
Hip/Knee/Ankle strength
Change of direction
Change in floor surface
Change in level
Inability to dual task
And that’s the short list…
Once we have evaluated each aspect of staying on our feet, we can then begin to practice, train for and improve upon each aspect as necessary.
If we are going to help our clients reduce their risk, we must help them improve on their weaknesses and amplify their strengths. In order to do that, we must know where they stand on each issue.
What we can test, we can train…
What we can train, we can control…
What we can control, we can improve!!!
